The structures that organised human work for the past century are losing their gravity. Networks were always how humans coordinated. Now value is starting to accrue to them. The company as the unit of everything is a paradigm in collapse.
AI has been building like a weather system for years. It is now a cyclone. The question is how to position yourself in relation to its force.
Most organisations are in the honeymoon period. AI is giving people the ability to finally articulate their ideas, to organise information, to move faster. It is seductive, and oftentimes productive. But honeymoons end. What comes next depends entirely on the work you were willing to do before the novelty wore off.
Outputs are only as good as the inputs, and most inputs are narrow, partial, and unexamined. The data AI draws on is an interpretation of what has been written down, published, indexed, codified: a particular kind of knowledge, produced by particular kinds of institutions, oriented toward efficiency, scalability, the logic of Silicon Valley dressed in the language of insight.
It sounds authoritative because it is fluent, complete because it is vast, and comforting because we like sycophancy in our underlings. But fluency is not wisdom, and vastness is not depth, and sycophancy is not developmental. Mistake the model's outputs for strategy and you will find your organisation converging toward the same conclusions as everyone else running the same tools on the same data.
The impact on strategy is serious. When the material feeding your decisions has not been interrogated, strategy looks coherent but it is brittle from the outset. People lose their capacity to sense what is emerging. Decisions get delegated to bots that lack the contextual intelligence to make them well. The organisation becomes a network of children talking to children, with no adult in the room.
And there is a subtler erosion happening beneath the surface. Performance starts to look polished while becoming hollow. But in the room, under pressure, in the moment where complexity requires navigation, the gaps appear. The know-how is missing.

Henri Poincare had been working for weeks on a class of mathematical functions, trying to prove they could not exist. He then abandoned the problem entirely to go on an excursion. Stepping onto a bus at Coutances, his mind elsewhere, the answer arrived in a single instant. The certainty was immediate, whole-body, absolute, and completely disconnected from any conscious effort.
This is how human cognition works: nonlinearly, associatively, in conditions of rest, digression, and wide attention.
The model has read everything that has been digitised. It has not walked in a field. It cannot contemplate the cosmos until something previously invisible becomes suddenly clear. This is not a failure of the technology. It is simply what it is: a system for finding patterns in what already exists. The mistake is confusing its outputs for the kind of knowing that arrives through presence, through discernment and attention, through poetic attunement.
That capacity is not lost. It is underused, underdeveloped, and in the current climate of treadmill anxiety, actively discouraged.

Attunement is the relational form of discernment: the capacity to sense the state of a room, a team, a moment, and to respond to what is happening rather than what is supposed to be happening. There must still be leaders who know when the plan needs to change before the metrics do.
At the level of the network. The dynamics of value creation in systems that no longer route through a centre. How trust flows. How to recognise and reward the forms of value that flow through networks but are invisible to markets: care labour, artistic contribution, community stewardship.
At the level of the state and the geopolitical. Where path dependency is not an organisational problem but a civilisational one. The design of institutions that can maintain attunement and discernment, make consequential decisions, and remain adaptive is the most important organisational design problem of the next decade.
